EverGleam Vintage Aluminum Christmas Tree In Action

This year I struggled with lack of holiday spirit, space constraints (for the 4th Xmas since we moved here) and the cut vs. artificial tree dilemma. All of the arguments point to a cut tree being the most environmentally friendly choice. The way our rooms are set up, however, make it difficult to place a tree (we had one here in 2007, the year we bought this townhome). Since we are childfree there is no real pressure to go to the trouble to have one. But I like celebrating the holiday with treasures that we only see for a few weeks each year so I wanted to find a way to do it. But I didn't want to buy a plastic tree. When I searched to find a "PVC Free Artificial Christmas Tree" what came up was Aluminum Christmas Trees.net and the information here and thru my other research pointed to the stainless aluminum tree of the Space Age as the only option. There are also feather trees, which are also quite popular in some countries, but I don't know if the feathers are plucked from a living bird and I wouldn't want an animal harmed for decoration. (I try to be both fur and feather free.) O (Aluminum) Christmas Tree

In case you've ever wanted some behind the scenes details about Dad's Super 8 Theater, I'll let you in on a couple secrets. First, the videos are edited way, way in advance. In fact, they have all been edited for several weeks as of this writing. The writings are done some time later, but still far in advance of being posted. Example, the date of this writing is Thursday, October 27th, 2011. The video in question here was edited exactly one month ago. I bring this up because I don't recall ever taking crack in my life, but I must have been on crack a month ago. I put Christmas music into this video when the events are actually filmed around Thanksgiving time. I am guessing Thanksgiving of 1974. It was the last year my Grandpa Miller would have Thanksgiving with us. (Meaning, of course, that he passed away a few months later, not that he went out and found another family he liked better to have holidays with). It all begins with mom carving the turkey. This should have been a hint to my younger self that this is a film about Thanksgiving, not Christmas. We very rarely had turkey on Christmas. Ham was more a Christmas meal, not turkey. My grandparents are sitting so proper and nice at the table, looking reverent and thankful for the camera and there I am waving. I can't keep that damned hand still. AlcoaRecycling's trees are being completed today and will be displayed at McGhee-Tyson Airport, near our recycling facility in Alcoa, Tennessee beginning this weekend and through the holidays. A few cool facts about these EverGREENS: • The three trees were made from a total of 1835 aluminum cans. Recycling those cans saves 95% of the energy it would take to make new cans from raw aluminum. That's enough saved energy to power a typical American home for nine days! • After these cans are recycled, they'll be back on a store shelf in about 60 days! Silver Christmas tree 1957 stainless steel aluminum vintage retro train around for the tree baby boomers

This tree has been in my family since 1957. My Dad bought it from Zigfield Troy. Mr. Troy owned a golf driving range on 111th & Halsted in Roseland Illinois and he was selling his silver trees at the range. This is actually made of stainless steel. I wanted to film this for my sisters who grew up with this tree after my Dad got tired of buying flocked ones. My Dad and Mom are 81 and 80 respectively so they have seen many a white Christmas! Some of the ornaments are old, many are new. Sorry I didn't run the color wheel but it's too noisy and I like the clatter of the train better. My sons had fun setting the train and trolley up with their Dad. Merry Christmas to you all especially all the baby boomers!!!
